Alabama Court RecordsThe Judicial Building, located in downtown Montgomery, is home to the state's Supreme Court, Court of Civil Appeals, Court of Criminal Appeals, State Law Library, and Administrative Office of Courts (which oversees the trial courts). The Court of the Judiciary is created consisting of one judge of an appellate court, other than the Supreme Court, who shall be selected by the Supreme Court and shall serve as Chief Judge of the Court of the Judiciary; two judges of the circuit court, who shall be selected by the Circuit Judges' Association; and one district judge who shall be selected by the District Judges' Association. The Judicial Building is located in downtown Montgomery at 300 Dexter Avenue, just a couple blocks west of the State Capitol and one block west of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church. From here you are able to inquire on Alabama state
case records including docket entries, parties, judgments, and charges in public
courts. In common law jurisdictions, a court of record is a court that keeps
permanent records of its proceedings. Judgments of a trial court of record are
normally subject to appellate review. In many jurisdictions, all courts are
courts of record. In many jurisdictions, courts that have the power to fine
or imprison must be courts of record. In almost all jurisdictions, a court of
record will have a court clerk whose primary duty is to maintain the permanent
records. Traditionally, a court of record was required to have its own unique
seal, which was used to authenticate its judgments and copies of its records.
